I'll have the beer. Thanks anyway.

So here's a question to ponder: would you let someone with legalistic principles tempt you into never drinking beer for the next year, with an offer of a job? That's a choice I had to make today. It didn't take long. I chose the beer, and lost about $2000 in the deal.

I've taught at an evangelical Christian school on and off for the past six years or so. The Board suddenly decided that all adjunct faculty needed to be on board with their "Confession." There's a section on the application about alcohol. I was honest. How can I not be? I find fermentation to be one of the wonders of Creation, a gift from God to be enjoyed and celebrated. I enjoy the fact that "wine gladdens the heart," and think it's plain kooky to believe that Welch's is something we should substitute for wine. And besides, what's a gathering with friends without a couple of beers to lift together in fellowhip?

The Vice President of the school asked me point blank if I would be willing to agree to abstain from alcohol in order to keep my job. I told him that was something I couldn't agree to do. Crazy Baptists.

I think I'll have a Scotch tonight to celebrate my convictions.

Excellent decision, Dan. Teetotalers - what can you do?

Still, sorry about the job loss.

It's stupid, on their part, to lose so much for so little.

More time to make truffles.

Lots of alcohol flavored truffles at that.

Let's see...

How about some Frangelico?

Grand Marnier is of course on the list of ingredients.

Creme de Menthe might be a nice addition.

And what the heck...bourbon and chocolate could go nicely together.

Maybe I'll send some over as a present to the vice president come Christmas.

A week later, I could give him the ingredient list.

Would he have to fire himself?
