New Year's Resolution...number one.

I'm pretty good in the kitchen, but for some reason, I don't cook for myself very often, other than a steak here and there. Breakfast is always the same, basically eggs and bacon, lunch is often away from home, and dinner is a crapshoot. Last night, I looked around at what I had lying around the house, and found some tuna steaks in the freezer. I had a couple of oranges and so I had the thought of making up a marinade for the steaks, and then lightly searing them on the grill.

I mixed up some soy sauce, the juice of one orange, added some rice vinegar, dried mustard and some hot pepper flakes, along with a touch of sugar. I added some ground ginger as well, then mixed in some oil and let the tuna steaks marinade for about 15 minutes.

I dried them off a bit, then dipped the outer edges in black sesame seeds, then popped 'em on the grill. I mixed up a dipping sauce, which was bacially soy sauce and rice vinegar, with the addition of orange zest, sugar, ginger and hot pepper flakes--essentially the marinade, with a little more emphasis on the rice wine vinegar to give it a nice bright flavor, and more sugar to balance out the saltiness of the soy sauce.

It was tasty! I repeated the meal tonight, with a tangerine instead of an orange, and bought some wasabi paste to go along with it.

I ate very well tonight, with minimal energy consumed. I had some broccoli with the meal too, and so it was a very healthy meal.

Why don't I do things like this more often? Why don't I cook for myself? It's always better than crappy fast food, but for some reason, (perhaps laziness), I fall back on that too often.

My New Year's Resolution is to stop eating crappy food, and to have more fun in the kitchen.

But it would be nice to have someone to cook for...so New Year's Resolution number two is to find myself a good woman. Actually, that should be number one. I'll keep you posted...
