So I went to hear a couple of auditions this morning at one of the colleges where I teach. I was wandering around outside the audition room, and there was a nervous looking saxophone player. She was sitting outside, listening to someone else play, and she was beginning to feel like she wasn't going to cut it. As she saw me loitering around, she asked me a question that is going to provide me some fodder for some good stories for a while.
Here it is:
"Are you the dad of that kid in there playing?"
Yikes!
I was taken aback, but a smile did creep on my face as I told her that no, I was a professor here, waiting to hear some other students audition.
If you do the math, it's possible. I'm old enough to be that kid's dad.
Apparently, I look it too.
Reminds me of when I went to help my ex-girlfriend buy a car. Some crotchety old man was working the lot, and he asked me if I was there with my daughter to buy a car.
We had a few laughs about that.
