Random Musings
- A former student of mine, who I've been thinking of calling, called me this afternoon. I've been meaning to grab lunch with him while he's student teaching, and before he moves away, so I was glad to hear from him. We're doing lunch, but he called me to pitch a "great business deal" with something called TEAM. I don't like it when people I know call me to try and sell me on a business idea.
- People are selfish, and incredibly narcissistic. We all know that, but at work, we're in the middle of a debate about the schedule we would like to have. There's a mix of full timers and part timers, and it's amazing how some of the full timers don't care if they screw the part timers out of work. To quote one guy: "if moving to day time rehearsals forces one of our part-timers to quit, we'll be able to find another player just as good." Man...that's heartless. I'm in charge of overseeing everything, and regardless of what decision is made, 20 or so people will be very unhappy with me and the rest of my committee.
- I saw two high school girls the other day at a coffee shop, obviously enjoying each other's company. As I watched them, it seemed to me that I saw two kids practicing friendship, practicing what it means to be a good friend. It made me think of my early ventures into friendship, and going out on my own with my buddies. It brought back fond memories, and made me appreciate my friends all the more.
- I like chocolate. Just for the record.

Dan, regarding TEAM, I'd encourage you to, right up front, ask him whether he's talking about the Quixtar business, because you have a friend who works for Alticor.
Then I'd ask you to pay close attention to how he responds. I'd be very interested in what he says.
I'll be sure to ask him--I didn't imagine that it was associated with Quixtar or Alticor. Interesting.
It'll be a couple of weeks before I get together with him, so I'll keep you posted.
Oh, and btw...you know I have no issues with Alticor--the DeVos's pay for my house, practically.
Oh Dan, I know you haven't anything against my employer or it's owners. You've made very clear your appreciation for their contributions to the community.
TEAM is an organization of Quixtar independent business owners (IBOs), many of whom are located in West Michigan. They have a very strong group identity, so strong that the nature/name of the business opportunity (Quixtar) that they offer to prospective business owners can often be less than clear because so much focus is given to the support organization: TEAM.
That's all. Just want you to get the straight scoop!
