A reminder...

of why I can't imagine doing anything else for a living.

This is an excerpt from a performance of Berlioz's Requiem, a titan of a piece if there ever was one. There are probably 1,000 musicians involved in this performance at the Royal Albert Music Hall in London (a place I've had the good fortune of performing in before). There must be about ten choirs involved, and about three minutes or so in you hear the opening of Tuba Mirum: the trumpet shall sound. And moments like this are what give trombonists and all brass players the biggest rush you could possibly imagine. It starts an antiphonal call of about four brass choirs spread around the hall, joined later by a barrage of timpani where I counted at least five players.

To see this live would make you think that the Last Day was upon you. I'll just say it: this kicks ass.
