So I was walking out of the music building down at WMU today, and I couldn't help but overhear a few words of an intense conversation that was taking place in the courtyard just outside the entrance.
This is what I heard: "Well, I just don't think we can be best friends anymore. Why do you have to go to such extremes all the time? I mean, I love you--you're my best friend and all, but why do you have to take things over the edge all the time?"
I stifled a chuckle, and was grinning the rest of the walk to my car as I thought about the whole thing.
Of course, I have no idea what they were talking about, but seeing two grown men (grad students, from their appearance) talking like this, talking about being "best friends," and that somehow the status could change dramatically like that just seemed absolutely ludicrous to me. I talked about having a best friend back in elementary school (happens to be a reader of my blog...), and maybe talked about it in jr. high, but in high school and college, your best friend was just the guy you hung out with all the time, but it wasn't labeled that way anymore. This kind of drama? Crazy, and a sure sign of a stunted emotional development if you ask me. (I'm good at making pop analyses of people's psyches with just a few overheard sentences. Benevolent of me, I know.)
All I can say is that I suspect they're vocalists. These sort of dramatic shenanigans are to be expected from the tra-la-la crowd.
Let's hope they make up.
