As of today, I have heat in my garage. My brother Jim and nephew Zach came over today to help me put in my woodstove, which I've had longer than I've had my home, believe it or not. I bought it at a great price in anticipation of having a house with a shop, a dream which I've had for about 20 years. I remember when I was in high school visiting a friend's shop in late fall. The air was cool and crisp, but the shop was toasty warm, heated by a woodstove in the corner. I've always been drawn to woodworking, but there was something that day that pulled even stronger to me in that shop. There is something very rustic and natural about wood heat that appeals to me. There's a comfortable hominess that only comes from having that woodstove in the corner. When I saw his shop, I was instantly bit with the bug to have a similar shop myself.
I'm looking forward to winter now, actually. I look forward to waking up on a snowy morning, going out to the shop to start a fire, and then coming back inside the house for an hour or two while the shop heats up. The image of walking out to my garage in falling snow, with plans of working on a project in the warmth from the woodstove, makes this guy a very happy camper.
Thanks Jim and Zach!
