Thoughts on Suffering

I had several hours in the car today, and as always, road time is thinking time. As I drove, I thought back over my life and all the things that have happened that were difficult or painful or heartbreaking. I had a revelatory thought: I'm convinced that if we could see our lives stretched out clearly before us, and could see in full detail the remarkable redemptive and transforming power of God's love and grace in the midst of every trial and painful moment we endure, and if we were given the choice of whether or not to relive them, we would choose to do so. The awe and wonder of God's redemption is so glorifying to him and beneficial to us that we would be humbled into a place where we would willingly choose to suffer all over again in order to have the blessing of being a vessel through which he could demonstrate in ways unique to us how miraculous are his grace, redemption and love. I'm convinced that the transforming power of God's grace and love in the midst of our pain causes the angels to fall on their knees in eternal praise of our God and Father, and confounds the most diabolical plans of our enemy.
